The 2014 Koarse FMX Open was held in Dunedin on the 22nd of Febuary unfortunately we were unable to get the required resource consent to run this as a public event. Since we already had the trophies made and the riders were still keen to get together and have a ride/practice before Farm Jam, we decided to run  as a private event, Riders only no public.
The event was cancelled on Facebook signs were put out on the road side saying it was cancelled and a new FMX set up was built over the back which can’t be seen from the road thus preventing the public from viewing or attending the event and also giving us the bonus of  having the best backdrop in fmx.
The course was only finished the night before and required a few tweaks threw out the day to keep it running smooth. A few of the international riders pulled out when the public event was cancelled and we couldn’t offer up the required prize money. We still ended up with 8 riders ripping up the brand new course with expat Kiwi and KOARSE sponsored rider Callum Shaw now riding FMX Full time in Australia taking the win with big flip combos. Gore’s Stephen Smith finishing 2nd and Alexandra resident Regan Hunter coming home in 3rd, Christchurch’s Joe McNaughton threw it sideways to take home the trophy for best whip. Other riders of note were Jason Young showing he still has it and Jesse Dobias with his smooth style.

All in all it was a great day with the weather holding out just long enough, the riders seemed to enjoy the new course although a few improvements are already being planned, we hope that with some consultation we may gain resource consent to run as a public event next year, fingers crossed.
We would like to thank the following sponsors who stuck behind us even when we had to cancel the event Mciver & Veitch, MotoXtreme, NT Motorcycles, Bridgestone tyre center, Pryde Engineering, Action Engieering, Thumpstar, Hard Core FMX, Lone Star cafe and bar and Spinnic.
We would also like to thank Paul Spinoglio and Hunter Burt for bringing up there drone helicopters for some filming. The videos they put together are below thanks guys great job, fingers crossed we can run a bigger and better event next year.
